Leah Buechley brought up a great idea about using graphite pencils tied with an Arduino. There is a site devoted to Drawing + Arduinos called DRAWDINO. It's really fun what they're doing with making music and drawing circuits:

Notes about raster and vector files and how to convert raster images to vector (using Illustrator Cs2 or later) for laser-cutting, etc...
homework #1:
For next week, Feb 25, post on this patterns link five images of patterns you have found interesting.
Also, develop a pattern of your own for digital printing and another (or a variant of the first) for laser-cutting.
